Top 3 Free SEO Friendly WordPress Themes

by Jay Venka on September 15, 2012

WordPress themes are fun and it is interesting to have a new look to your blogs by constantly looking out for a clean, fast loading, wordpress theme that has pleasing appearance as well.

Another major factor that is missed out usually when finalizing a theme is the SEO friendly options the theme has inbuilt.

There are pretty good paid SEO friendly themes out, but off late using them I found out they are no different from free wordpress themes that are available in wordpress.org directory.

1. Pagelines theme:

Pagelines is one of the premium wordpress theme out there, but very few know of its free version available which is as good as the paid one.

Pagelines theme free version can be downloaded form wordpress.org directory from below link.

2. Twenty ten:

Twenty ten used to be the default wordpress theme along with wordpress install until Twenty eleven replaced it, Twenty twelve is in the beta now. but Twenty ten has some clean SEO friendly layouts which makes it a good free SEO theme to consider.

3. Thematic wordpress Theme:

Thematic is more of a framework where you can build your own child themes and customization. But still with no customizations and default options the theme looks like a perfect minimalistic wordpress  SEO friendly theme.

More options can be confusing, instead of a constant hunt for best wordpress themes trying the three free themes above and working on content and ranking your blogs will add more to your bottomline. Not to mention the above listed themes do outperform some of the paid themes out there.

Do share your comments on the best WordPress themes.

WordPress Security Tips

by Jay Venka on August 19, 2012

WordPress Security Tips to protect your Blogs:

If you are using your default user id which is “admin” for your wp-admin section then you need to consider changing it. Because hackers tend to run software attempts by guessing your passwords for your blog’s wp-admin section when you use default user id as “admin” but the id can be set only during wordpress installation.

There is not an option in the dashboard to change the user id. So make sure you follow this security tip for your new blog installations.

Select a nickname for your Profile:

There is an option to Select a nickname for your Profile in WordPress dashboard. This way you can hide your user id from being diplayed along with your blog post (usually below your post title)

The screenshot below shows how to set a nickname from wp-admin dahboard>profile section.

  • Once you select a nickname it will show in the dropdown that says “display name publicly as” from that select your newly added nickname.
  • This name will be displayed in your blog posts instead of your user ids, this way you are not exposing your actual user id of your blog admin section but a pseudo name or a nick name.

Tips to Improve your Article Marketing Post Google
Panda and Penguin Updates

Article sites are the worst affected by Google Panda and Penguin
updates. Post Penguin update article marketing has completely
changed which is good for the internet community as a whole.
Your articles may not be accepted like it was before you started
article marketing.

You need to be more specific and provide quality in your articles
than providing filer info and solving minimum word counts.

It is also advisable that before submitting your article,
you evaluate the article directories quality.

5 Points to Remember Before Choosing Your Article Directory

1. Minimum word count for each article and number
of links allowed in resource box

Post panda update EZA (Ezine articles) has increased its minimum
count  from 250 to 400, which is good in a way forcing webmaster
and marketers to produce more quality articles now than before.
The bar is raised higher  by EZA every time there is a new Google
update rolled out.

2. Allowing of Do follow links in resource box
and anchor text usage

Some article directories do not allow do follow links in resource
boxes. Submitting your articles to these directories is a  total waste
of your effort if you are submitting articles for SEO purposes as well.
But if the directory can bring you good referral traffic then you may
want to think about the tradeoff. To check dofollow or nofollow of links
use SEOQuake browser extension or right click and view source and see
it your link has nofollow associated.

3. Possible syndication of your article to its newsletter
subscribers and bloggers

Big article networks like EZA has good syndication possibilities to
newsletter subscribers. If you are submitting to paid article directories
like Article Marketing Robot, they have a list of bloggers who have
subscribed for articles. If your article matches their category it will
possibly land in their blogs automatically.

4. Not too much scattered with ads and in house links
preventing readers from landing your pages

EZA (Ezinearticles) post panda downfall has made some tweaks to
its pages which are now less bombarded with Adsense ads in it.
Hindering your resource box with Adsense or other ads causes
reduce in your article CTRs. Lesser ads means more visitors to
your website in resource box.

5. Time taken for article verification and overall approval
process and overhead involved in it

Never expect auto approval of your article when you submit it to
a trustworthy article directory with strict quality guidelines.
Expecting a 3-4 days approval time for every article published
is normal and anything more than that is not good. You don’t
want to have your article published with bad timing and
the content being outdated.
